The Spitz Gallery is now recruiting volunteers to staff its gallery. The gallery focuses on photojournalistic exhibitions, some of which relate to issues of social concern. We depend largely on our volunteers to help us run the gallery and to this end, we are looking to strengthen our team with talented, committed individuals.

The main responsibility for our volunteers is to invigilate exhibitions. This requires an interest in photography (whether technical or aesthetic) and an understanding of the issues raised by the work. In addition to this, we are looking for people interested in the day-to-day running of the gallery. Currently our volunteers are involved in: researching sponsorship and funding, setting up educational workshops & looking for new submissions through photographic agencies and individual photographers.

Our volunteers are an invaluable source of energy and ideas, and we want your time with us to be a valuable experience for all concerned. It would be of particular benefit to someone with a strong interest in photography, or in arts administration. Due to the importance of your role here we require a minimum commitment of six months. Volunteers receive travel expenses for the day that they work, a free staff meal and free entry to gigs at the Spitz venue.
A focus on exhibiting mainly photojournalistic work at the start of 2002 quickly established the space as one of the UKs leading photographic spaces. Today the gallery exhibits innovative work in a range of media, and continues to support socially aware photojournalism.

Donations to The Dandelion Trust are a great help in maintaining the existence of this free space.
